dana practice
In Buddhism, dāna (Pali) refers to the practice of cultivating and giving with generosity, charity, and open-heartedness. It is considered one of the most important virtues and a foundational practice on the path to enlightenment.
I humbly offer mindfulness practices to all who wish to begin or deepen their practice. My drop-in sessions are free of charge and will continue to be so, ensuring accessibility for everyone. For those who feel moved to support this work, I gratefully accept dana/donations via Venmo @shannon-casey-17. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
donation / dana:
-
✽
A spiritual act, not a transaction
Dāna is not payment for goods or services, but a spontaneous act of giving from the heart, without any expectation of repayment. -
✽
Cultivates a generous heart
The practice helps individuals to develop a generous and open heart, which is essential for progressing on the Buddhist path. -
✽
Antidote to greed
Dāna is the direct antidote to the "three poisons" of greed, hatred, and delusion, helping to weaken the mental factor of craving that leads to suffering. -
✽
Generates merit and positive karma
Acts of dāna generate positive karma and merit, which can lead to favorable outcomes in this and future lives, such as happiness, prosperity, and spiritual growth. -
✽
Strengthens community
Dāna fosters a sense of interconnectedness and mutual support within the Sangha (the community of practitioners) and the wider community. -
✽
Supports the Dharma
In many Buddhist traditions, dāna provides material support for teachers and centers, ensuring the teachings of the Dharma can continue to be offered freely.
May any merit we have generated together through our practice be distributed throughout the world to all beings. May our thoughts, words, and actions bring benefit to the world.
